Still my No. 1: Nicole Scherzinger comforts Lewis Hamilton after he fails to win Formula 1 world championship

Over the finish line: Lewis Hamilton kisses Nicole Scherzinger after coming fourth in the Formula One World Championship in Abu Dhabi

Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger was a shoulder to cry on for boyfriend Lewis Hamilton last night after he failed to clinch the Formula One World Championship in Abu Dhabi.

The McLaren-Mercedes driver finished the race in second place with Sebastian Vettel taking the chequered flag to become the youngest world champion in the history of the sport - a title inherited from Lewis.

Lewis, 25, finished a disappointing fourth in the standings after landing the title in 2008 but kept a wry smile on his face, as Nicole looked more upset at his loss than him.

Beep: The Pussycat Doll singer had earlier asked all her Twitter followers to send Lewis 'light and energy' for his last ditch bid to regain the title of world champion

After the longest Formula One season yet, which kicked off in March in Bahrain, McLaren teammate and fellow Brit Jenson Button meanwhile came fifth in the drivers' table.

Lewis and former X Factor guest judge Nicole, 32, - who split for six weeks at the start of the year - looked inseparable as the singer consoled him and promised to 'Stickwitu'.

Earlier, Nicole had urged her Twitter followers send her boyfriend 'good energy and lots of light!'

She also gushed afterwards: 'So proud of you in your race tonight babe!'

Wry smiles: The couple still seem smitten with each other despite Lewis's disappointment at coming fourth in the rankings

The pair have now been together three years after first hooking up in November 2007.
Earlier, Lewis had encouraged Vettel to celebrate after finishing the championship four points clear of Fernando Alonso.

The 23-year-old was almost in a daze as he confronted the world's media following his success, seemingly unable to comprehend his achievement.

The Stevenage-born star, who now lives in Switzerland, said: 'It's different for all of us, but it's for him to experience it and take it all in.

'That's the best advice I can give him, to just enjoy every second of it and try to embrace every minute.

'Don't let anyone take any of your time, or too much of your time. Make sure you save some for yourself.'

Lewis had flown virtually his whole entire family out to the United Arab Emirate as he made his last push to win the title in what was the closest championship in the 60-year history of F1.

His mother Carmen and stepfather Raymond Lockhart were there as well as Nicole, while his father Anthony was there working for the Force India team.

However, relations are still said to be strained between the pair after the star sacked him as his manager just before the start of the season in March.

Nicole meanwhile is revving up to release her new solo single Poison on 29 November.

It's the first track to be taken from her forthcoming debut solo album which she's recorded with Lady GaGa's producer Red One.

She ditched her first attempt before it was due to be released in 2009, saying she was unhappy with it.

She's also attempting to launch herself as a movie actress with a role in Men In Black 3, due out in 2012.

The sequel also features the return of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, as well as stars Gemma Arterton, Emma Thompson, Josh Brolin and Alec Baldwin.
