'My head's spinning!': Cheryl Cole tries to whittle down the X Factor Girls tonight with help from close friend Will.I.Am

X Factor?: Will.I.Am joins Cheryl Cole for her Judges' House scenes, screening tonight, to who's got what it takes to win the show

It's the moment of truth in the X Factor tonight - yes, the nation gets to see for itself any chemistry between judge Cheryl Cole and her special friend Will.I.Am.

Cheryl invited the Black Eyed Pea to join her at the Judges' Houses stage of the show, which for her, is held in a Berkshire mansion.

Cheryl is this year casting her eye over the Girls - and Katie, Cher, Rebecca, Gamu, Annastasia, Kerri, Treyc and Raquel have a lot to prove.

Intent: Cheryl listens to what the Black Eyed Pea star has to say about the Girls

On tonight's show, Will.I.Am takes his place next to the Girls Aloud star on the sofa after being introduced by her when she says: 'Don’t know if you’ll have any idea who it is but he’s a very good friend of mine and an absolute mega star, it’s Mr Will.I.Am.'

Will.I. Am meanwhile tells the ladies: 'Cheryl asked me to come and help her out and I can’t wait to see what you guys got.'

Meanwhile, mentor Cheryl adds: 'I’m so happy to be back and I’m really sorry I missed Bootcamp, but I’ve watched the tapes.

'I know you’re nervous, I am. It’s a massive day and a really important day for everybody.'

She adds later having seen all the girls perform in the flesh: 'Just want to say that I’m the happiest I have ever been with my category. I couldn’t be happier to have the girls, I’m buzzing.

'Back to health and back and I couldn’t be happier.'

Pause for thought: Cheryl takes a moment on her own to clear her spinning head about what decisions to make

However, she didn't add whether having Will.I.Am sat next to her had anything to do with it...
The Black Eyed Peas frontman has made no secret of his feelings for the 3 Words singer, who he duetted with on his global smash hit Heartbreaker.

However, she was accompanied by her other close friend, dancer Derek Hough, when she was recuperating from malaria in Los Angeles.

But in her new autobiography Through My Eyes, which she launched with a book signing in London yesterday, she refused to be drawn on her relationship with either of them.
Back to the X Factor though, and during Cheryl's Judges' House show in Ascot, there are trials, tears and tribulations and some surprises.

At the end, Cheryl says trying to choose out of her eight is 'horrendous'.
'My head's spinning!' she adds.

Meanwhile, elsewhere on tonight's X Factor, Dannii Minogue is joined by Natalie Imbruglia to vet her Boys in Australia, Sharon Osbourne makes her re-appearance with her old friend Louis Walsh at his house in Shannon, Ireland, for the Overs and Sinitta is back with Simon Cowell in Spain.

All the remaining 32 contestants are fighting for their place in the final 12 on this year's show.

The X Factor is on ITV1 tonight at 7.30pm.
Cheryl's Girls category - who will she choose?
