Madonna, queen of the airbrush: 'Before' shots leaked showing star with veiny arms

By RACHEL QUIGLEY

In the advert: Madonna looks smooth-skinned for Dolce and Gabbana

Strike a pose… and then use a bit of computer trickery. That appears to be the secret of Madonna’s most recent look.

Photos purported to be the ‘before’ shots of Madonna in her provocative shoot for fashion house Dolce and Gabbana were leaked on to the internet yesterday.

In the official shots used for the campaign, the 52-year-old queen of pop appears fresh faced and smooth skinned.

Au naturel: Those prominent veins on Madonna's arms and more realistic skin tone

But that immediately raised questions, because in recent years the veins on her hands have been a tell-tale sign of the passing years.

In the official shots they are smooth and vein-free, as are her biceps.

Last night one air-brushing expert was convinced that the leaked shots were the original photos and the officially published shots were the result of computer wizardry.

Craig Ralph, whose company TapestryMM has worked with glossy magazines and companies including French Connection and Marks & Spencer, said it would have taken two days of solid work to erase every blemish from the singer.

He added: ‘Madonna’s skin tone has been evened out and all blemishes removed from her décolleté. Her neck has been retouched to remove lines and the saggy “turkey neck” effect.

‘Her face has been slimmed down and a clever use of shadowing has helped define her cheekbones. The same technique is also used around her jaw line to make it stronger and more angular.

‘Her large visible veins have been painstakingly removed to make her arms look soft and smooth.’
