Katie Price and Alex Reid are badly heckled as they attend cage fight he should have taken part in

Brave faces: Katie Price holds husband Alex Reid's hand as they watch a cage fight in Birmingham last night amid a barrage of insults from the crowd

They are one of the most vilified couples in showbiz and are probably used to dealing with criticism everywhere they go.

But Katie Price and Alex Reid got more than even they bargained for when they turned up at a cage fight that he was supposed to take part in.

The couple put on brave faces as they sat among the spectators at the Bamma 3 event in Birmingham last night, despite the cat calls and insults being thrown at them

And even as the poor couple left the LG Arena after watching the fight, they were followed out to their mini bus and as they waited to leave, were taunted by a baying crowd outside.

Alex, 34, and Katie, 31, had attended the professional mixed martial arts event to support fighter Tom 'Kong' Watson.

It then transpired that Alex had supposed to be Tom's opponent but had pulled out of the fight due to a knee injury.

Stony-faced: Through the ringside cage, Katie looks upset as Alex ignores the insults and greets a friend

And this appeared to give his ringside critics even more ammunition as they started chanting: 'You never would have beat him.'

They then added: 'He's far too good for you!'

The couple sought solace in their friends nearby and tried to ignore the abuse as they laughed and sipped at drinks.

Insulting: Two spectators decide to pay their own personal 'tribute' to Katie and Alex

But the barrage didn't stop when the fight did and Katie and Alex were subjected to yet more abuse as they left the venue.

According to onlookers, the couple were followed by tens of people made their way to their mini bus which was waiting outside for them.

As they sat in the bus waiting to leave, the crowd started chanting, 'Alex Reid's a p****', before the couple were whisked away home.

Holding their heads up: Alex and Katie look up at the fight

Reid postponed last night's fight against Watson after he sustained an injury during the filming of his 'Fight Of His Life' reality TV show for the Bravo channel.

After he cancelled the match, Watson is believed to have said Alex was a 'complete joke' and fellow cage fighter Jack Mason said he should have gone ahead with the fight.

Speaking to Now magazine last week, Mason, 27, who battled Alex in the ring for an UCMMA fight last September, said: ‘He says it was an injury, but you'd usually just go ahead anyway - that's what a fighter does. You've been training for two months and it would let everyone down to pull out over a silly little injury.'
