What's in a name? Julia Louis-Dreyfus at the unveiling of her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday
As the first Seinfeld actor to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Julia Louis-Dreyfus was no doubt feeling a little chuffed by the honour.
But her ego took a knock yesterday when she discovered the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce misspelled her name.
The plaque read 'Luis' instead of 'Louis' and there was no hyphen between Louis and Dreyfus.
Luckily the 49-year-old comedian, who also stars in the U.S. series The New Adventures Of Old Christine, saw the funny side of a potentially embarrassing situation..
'The misspelling was so perfectly apt, a great metaphor for show business,' Louis-Dreyfus said after the Tuesday morning ceremony.
'Right when you think you've made it, you get knocked down,' she continued. 'It's an ideal metaphor for how this business works.'
The Chamber of Commerce press office was first alerted to the error when it was spotted by an eagle-eyed CNN copy editor on his way to work.
Get out! The Seinfeld's star was misspelled on the original plaque
Quick fix: The error was patched up just in time for the ceremony
After a great deal of panic, it swiftly chiseled out and replaced it with a temporary 'Louis-' just in time for the unveiling.
The offending chunk of pink-terrazzo will to be given to the actress as a souvenir.
Attendees at the ceremony included Seinfeld director Andy Ackerman, co-star Jason Alexander and co-creator Larry David, who joked, 'I am prepared to give up my nights and weekends to guard this (star) with my life from the filth and pollutants to which it's prone.
By George! Seinfeld co-star Jason Alexander turned out to show his support
Having a laugh: Seinfeld writer and producer Larry David paid tribute to the actress
'Anyone who so much as sneezes near this area, while I'm on duty... well, I'll say, 'God bless you,' but I won't be happy about it.'
A spokeswoman for the Chamber of Commerce, which administers the Walk of Fame ceremonies, said it would install a new, correctly spelled star at the earliest opportunity.
The last Walk of Fame honoree whose name was misspelled was actor Dick Van Dyke in 1993.
